FIFA bans Iranian Players Wear Hijab

FIFA remained unmoved about the rule prohibiting the use of hijab in soccer. This makes Iran's national team soccer girls can not perform at the 2012 Olympics qualifying round, because they use a veil.

In a statement on Monday (06/06/2011), FIFA rejected the Iranian Football Federation(FFIRI). "The actions we prohibit Iranian women national team to play is right. Therefore,we have informed the rules that prohibit wearing the hijab to them, before they wereagainst Jordan. hijabs and scarves that cover the neck are prohibited for security reasons," FIFA said in a statement.

FIFA has banned the use of the hijab since 2007. They also add a rule prohibiting the use of scarves at the neck as a warmer for the same reasons.

Iran along with Jordan are in one group with Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam in the early stage the 2012 Olympics being played in Jordan. The winner will advance toelimination round last five Asian countries inhabited by the best. Two of the top positionswill advance to the finals in London, England, next year. (AP)
